Sport Psychology
Equipping high-achieving athletes to pursue their true potential
Honoring the person within
Participating in a competitive sport at any level can be hard on both the mind and body. When things get particularly difficult, it can be easy to fall into thinking you're the only person who’s ever felt this way.
The goal of working with athletes, teams, coaches, and parents of athletes was my first reason for pursuing a career in psychology. In this time I have developed a robust ideology, an emphasis on person-first, understanding that sport is the crucible in which we can have peak experiences as humans.
I offer services for individuals or groups who want to optimize their ability to work hard towards their most meaningful goals.
How We Can Work Together
-
Sport Psych Seminar*
With small groups or entire teams, we work together to assess group dynamics and needs. During the seminar we can address these needs and develop an open and honest space for athletes to share. Presentations will provide pertinent information and hands-on learning experiences as appropriate. Seminars can be a single meeting or a series of presentations on related topics.
-
Team Building*
Clarifying goals and shared values within team dynamics can improve team unity and bonding. This type of training is often done at the beginning and middle of a season. Team building is also appropriate following significant events that impact the majority of athletes on a team, such as unexpected transitions, death of a teammate, or significant interpersonal conflicts.
-
Coach Consultation*
Incorporating mental health into coaching practices is beneficial for all parties involved. In these training, we will work together to address relevant needs. Topics covered may include incorporating mental and physical training more effectively, working through trying situations, effective team building and leadership, coping with stressors, or strengths building.
-
Parent Consultation
Parenting is hard, it can be even more stressful for parents of highly driven athletes. We will work together to figure out how to best support your child through the intense world of sports. This service is adaptable for both individual or group settings.
I am happy to work with parents of current clients with explicit consent from the client.

Yes! As a licensed psychologist, I have ethical and legal mandates to keep all information you share with me, even your identity, confidential. Therapy is a safe space we create together built on trust and healing. Being able to talk openly and freely in therapy is a significant component to addressing your concerns.
When working with minors, I generally make the arrangement that we will keep information shared private from parents except in situations where the child is clearly making dangerous choices (but the situation is not one that reaches the otherwise established boundaries for breaking confidentiality.)
Information may be shared with other entities in the case of imminent suicidal or homicidal intent, need to report child or elder abuse, or in certain legal situations when compelled by a court order.
Diagnostic information and appointment dates are shared with insurance providers, if used.

I accept cash, check, and all major credit cards.
Check and see if you have an HSA (health savings account) through your employer; use these pre-tax dollars to cover any costs you may have!
Payment is due at the beginning of the session. However, I know that life does happen and am happy to allow clients to carry a small balance if they encounter temporary financial hardship.

Yes! I am a provider for Aetna and United HealthCare/Optum.
It is critical that you CALL your insurance company and confirm benefits prior to our initial appointment. You will need to know if you have a co-payment (and what that payment is) or if you need to meet a deductible (and how much that is). I am not able to make these calls for you and every plan can be different, even within the same company.
Check out Questions to ask your insurance, I created some helpful scripts to use while calling your insurance company!
If your insurance company refuses coverage, you are liable for all charges incurred. It can be very stressful to discover you might owe several hundred dollars because we've met a number of times before being informed that the services are not covered. I can try to help you with any insurance-related questions you may have, but ultimately the insurance company itself will be the best source of information. Insurance companies can be so confusing! But it does get easier to understand with time and a little investigating.

Sometimes there are out-of-network benefits, for help figuring this out, see Questions to ask your Insurance
Sometimes insurance companies are willing to add people to their panel, even if only a one time exception, if asked.
If neither of these options pan out, self-pay is an option
If self-pay is not an option, I can help you find someone who is in network.
