Therapy & Counseling for high achievers seeking healing
For Clients in Columbia, Missouri and statewide
Therapy requires the right balance of information and intuition.
My work utilizes evidence-based practices, adapting and flexing to meet personal needs and preferences of each client. Almost all of my work features elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which focuses on developing greater awareness of important personal values and insight into how to act more functionally and in support of who you truly want to be (even when it is very challenging to do so). (Read more about ACT here)
I strive to be genuine and collaborative in therapy, I wish my clients to feel respected and empowered to make positive changes in their lives. I encourage you to make that initial phone call and get a sense how well matched we might be and determine if this is the right time for you to make important or needed changes within yourself and your life.
Helping clients become more mindful (ability to “be” fully in the present moment) and skillful in their interpersonal relationships is also a significant aspect of what therapy can do.
We can integrate perspectives from many other types of therapy, such as emotions-focused, CBT, DBT, solutions-focused orientations. Learning through metaphors, personal exploration, reading, and humor are all important to me as a clinician and as a person; when appropriate, we laugh and enjoy everything that life has to offer.
Therapy will be a space where you feel safe, respected, accepted and celebrated in any and all of the identities that you hold.
This is very, very important to me.
I consider it an honor to be a part of so many special people's lives, at what is often some of the most important and sometimes painful growth they will experience.
A FIRST CALL, WHAT TO EXPECT:
Understandably, many people are nervous about starting therapy. When you make the initial phone call, we will talk and get a general overview of what your difficulties are. If there are no concerns about being able to meet your needs, we can set up an initial appointment.
If you're still not sure or feeling ready to move forward, there's no pressure to schedule an appointment. Additionally, I am always happy to help to provide referrals to other practitioners if that's what would be most useful. Even if we don't end up working together, I truly hope you find the help and support you need.

Yes! As a licensed psychologist, I have ethical and legal mandates to keep all information you share with me, even your identity, confidential. Therapy is a safe space we create together built on trust and healing. Being able to talk openly and freely in therapy is a significant component to addressing your concerns.
When working with minors, I generally make the arrangement that we will keep information shared private from parents except in situations where the child is clearly making dangerous choices (but the situation is not one that reaches the otherwise established boundaries for breaking confidentiality.)
Information may be shared with other entities in the case of imminent suicidal or homicidal intent, need to report child or elder abuse, or in certain legal situations when compelled by a court order.
Diagnostic information and appointment dates are shared with insurance providers, if used.

I accept cash, check, and all major credit cards.
Check and see if you have an HSA (health savings account) through your employer; use these pre-tax dollars to cover any costs you may have!
Payment is due at the beginning of the session. However, I know that life does happen and am happy to allow clients to carry a small balance if they encounter temporary financial hardship.

Yes! I am a provider for Aetna and United HealthCare/Optum.
It is critical that you CALL your insurance company and confirm benefits prior to our initial appointment. You will need to know if you have a co-payment (and what that payment is) or if you need to meet a deductible (and how much that is). I am not able to make these calls for you and every plan can be different, even within the same company.
Check out Questions to ask your insurance, I created some helpful scripts to use while calling your insurance company!
If your insurance company refuses coverage, you are liable for all charges incurred. It can be very stressful to discover you might owe several hundred dollars because we've met a number of times before being informed that the services are not covered. I can try to help you with any insurance-related questions you may have, but ultimately the insurance company itself will be the best source of information. Insurance companies can be so confusing! But it does get easier to understand with time and a little investigating.

Sometimes there are out-of-network benefits, for help figuring this out, see Questions to ask your Insurance
Sometimes insurance companies are willing to add people to their panel, even if only a one time exception, if asked.
If neither of these options pan out, self-pay is an option
If self-pay is not an option, I can help you find someone who is in network.
